What is the funniest gift we could bring to a four-house artist collective we have been invited to report on? We want to be memorable.

"I live in an arts collective that is about to celebrate it's seventh year, we own four houses on one lot, It's a big party but it might be a good chance for you to meet other members of the arts community." That's the invite we got. We want to make an impression and these people call themselves Hazard Factory, so we're not talking conservatives. Humor goes a long way when making friends and the classic bottle'o'wine just isn't our style.
Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Is there an Art For Dummies book?

Morris003, you are the winner because I went looking through the bookstore for Art For Dummies, which I couldn't find, but the other For Dummies in this context were so funny I laughed out loud, all alone, and scared the crap out of a little old lady. My favorite: IBS For Dummies.
Thank you all for your answers. We are going with a combination of the safety gear, noise complaints and a book I did find called What's Toxic, What's Not all wrapped up in a nice basket.

That's funny. Would pair well with something...

Thank you very much. Actually, I would probably buy an Art for Dummies book.

Dress up a blow up doll as your favorite diabolical local art critic!

Not bad but we don't actually know of any art critics. I guess that says something about our legitimacy as art journalists.

Are these the people that you're talking about?
http://www.hazardfactory.org/

Some ideas:

Classy, black-and-white photos of you both naked.

A stack of restraining orders, privacy and noise complaints that are pre-filled with your names and addresses. Dress it up and put a really nice bow around it to make it a "gift".

If I'm right that this is the hazardfactory.org, it looks like these people like to drink. Personalized bottles of liquor might go a long way. Mix up a tasty drink, bottle it and print attractive (artsy) labels with the name of each person.

Yes that is them. The restraining order/noise complaint is really funny.

If robbrown is correct and found the Hazard Factory site, I would suggest getting them some safety equipment!

Or many some unique signs for around the garage!

You can't lose with an unbreakable keyboard (sounds like they might need one from their blog entry...)

It sounds like you are talking about a 'white elephant' situation, perhaps with a bit of 'I might actually keep this,' thrown in. It would be helpful if you would give us a price range. Since you mentioned the bottle of wine I'm assuming you are not talking Picasso but perhaps more than a few dollars budgeted.

If it is only a few dollars for the budget I would go with something like this create your own art item: http://leedsworld.com/products/item/?item=6630-20

You could tell them the spirit of the item is that art is a continual creation and recreation.

I am not promoting this because I sell promotional products because I do not sell one at a time, however if you want me to get a 'sample' from the company I can do that. Otherwise they are readily available in specialty shops, toy stores and possibly even the drugstore.
