What is the English translation for: "voir les dessous des cortes"?

This is carved in a vintage piece of folk art; a table top used for playing cards that fits on a barrel. It is only one third of the saying. A second part is French "to spend (or pass?) the time".
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Are you sure the last word isn't "cartes"? Because then it would say "View beneath the cards." Which makes sense for a playing table. The way it is now, it would say "View beneath the cuts", which is a rather gruesome command.

The correct expression is "Voir le dessous des cArtes":

"View beneath the cards" which means “Know the inside stories.”
