M$The Xbox was Microsoft’s first entry into the console wars and was built to compete with Sony’s Playstation 2 and Nintendo’s Gamecube. The Xbox 360was its successor and competes with Sony’s Playstation 3 (I really don’t see the Nintendo Wii as being in the same generation since it caters to a different market). The main difference between the 2 is obviously in technical specs. They are basically a generation apart since one is a successor to the other.
I don’t think they sell the original Xbox anymore in stores unless you go visit a pawnshop or something. Plus, Xbox Live on the original Xbox has already been discontinued last April so if you fancy playing a game of Halo 2 online, you’re better off getting an Xbox 360 and Halo 3 or better yet, the newer Halo Reach.
The only reason I think people would still buy the original Xbox is for its homebrew capabilities which in my opinion, is still pretty strong despite many homebrew developers moving on to greener pastures with the Xbox 360 and PS3 (with the recent jailbreak developments).
