What is the difference between these different models of Canon PowerShot digital cameras?

The PowerShot line by Canon is a line of consumer and prosumer (consumer who are a little more serious about photography) digital cameras. In total, the PowerShot line has 7 different grades of digital cameras.
The A series is marketed as a budget line of cameras targeted to the consumer who just needs a camera to document special occassions. The current line offered by Canon are the A490, A495, A800, A1200, A2200, A3000IS, A3100IS, A3300IS.
The D series was designed to be a waterproof, freeze and shock resistant cameras and the E series are design-oriented cameras. Currently, Canon only offers the D10.
The G series is a line of high-end advanced cameras which are considered semi-SLR. The G9, G10, G11 and G12 have become extremely popular among consumers in recent years. The most current model is the G12.
The S/SD series are considered ultracompact series which give performance and style. The current line includes the SD1300IS, ELPH 100 HS, SD1400IS, ELPH300HS, SD3500IS, SD4000IS, ELPH500HS, SD4500IS.
The S/SX series are ultra-zoom cameras. The current line are the SX130IS, SX210IS, SX230HS, SX30IS and the S95.
