What is the difference between suicide and sacrifice?

Except for spelling!; Aren't these words about the same? Here are a few examples: A suicide bomber considers his/her decision as a sacrifice but we see it as a suicide. The RELIGIOUS Jesus died as a sacrifice but if we look at the HISTORIC Jesus, his actions were suicide(He was a real man without powers(?) to some historians). Those firemen and police officers who went into the Twin Towers knew it was suicide but we see their actions as a sacrifice.

No, they are not the same, not even close!

Suicide is (mostly) selfishness. They 'know' that they can't do anything else to better their lives, so they kill themselves, with little regard to how others, who love them, will feel.

Sacrifice is to give yourself over to a cause. It means that you CARE for someone, something, or a cause so much that you are willing to give yourself up for it. It doesn't also necessarily mean death either.

Don't read too much into people who are doing their jobs that say "It's suicide". They say that because they know they may fall in the line of their work. Just like people who go into the Armed Forces. They HAVE to know that a lot of them aren't coming back, and they may be one of those that don't come back. Would you consider that suicide or sacrifice?

Would you consider people who smoke to be committing slow suicide then? A lot of them know the effects of smoking.

suicide is done when someone is depressed and find no value of his life. sacrifice is done when some thinks by his life he can get some values for what he loves.

Well, as you have aptly put it, the two words are relative... It depends on how you look at the situation. A person is said to have sacrificed himself when his death has other implications other than his death, like a common good while a person who commits suicide has killed himself without anyone getting any good out of it. But this definition depends on the person, for example a suicide bomber believes he is doing a common good by destroying infidels and rising high in the eye of God, that is , for him its sacrifice but for us its suicide as we see no good arising from it.. Similarly the religious people consider Jesus to have done goo by dying while historians do not think so and so on... I hope this answers your question.
