Tip for best answer: M$0.37
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Probation is a set of rules assigned by the court that makes it possible for you to live in the community instead of serving time (or a longer time) behind bars, as long as you obey the specific rules of your probation. If you break those rules you can get rearrested and re-sentenced for the original crime.

Parole is, in a sense, an early release program. If you violate the terms of your parole you can be returned to prison to serve the rest of your original sentence.

The Officer of each program is simply the person who you report to and makes the determination whether or not you have violated the terms of your program. In both cases that Officer holds your future in their hands.

Probation officers supervise people that are on probation. Parole officers perform many of the same duties that probation officers perform. The job of probation officers and parole officers are basically the same. The difference is simply that parole officers deal with offenders who have been released from prison, and probation officers deal with people who were sentenced to probation instead of prison.
