What is the difference between corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup?
I bought a package of cookies and it prominently advertised on the front panel that it did not contain HFCS but when I read the ingredients one of them was "corn syrup". Is this misleading or is HFCS somehow worse?

Corn syrup is mostly glucose. High fructose corn syrup is regular corn syrup subjected to an enzymatic process which converts the glucose to fructose, which is sweeter. The two are often blended to get the desired amount of sweetness required in the product. There is some concern that HFCS is worse for your health and more likely to lead to obesity. The presence of glucose in our bloodstream is the primary mechanism that controls our feelings of hunger. Fructose does not do this so the body can be loaded with fructose, but you would still feel hungry. Hence you would tend to eat more if the product is sweetened with fructose, such as HFCS.
