What is the difference between argument and bickering?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

An argument is a presentation of points and counter points. Some arguments are formal, and others aren't. It's implied that an argument is based on something somewhat important, like a political viewpoint or an opinion about a current event.

Bickering, however, is a childish quibble over unimportant things. Children tend to bicker over things like which episode of "SpongeBob" was the best, for example.

However, you can also bicker during an argument. If you're having a good argument over an event from history, and your opponent gives a date that's one year off, you two might bicker over the correct date. That's really not the point of the argument, so you're bickering over a minor point that, ultimately, doesn't matter nearly as much as the actual event that's supposed to be the focal point of the argument.
