What is the difference between a raven and a writing desk?

This is a riddle from the movie "Alice In Wonderland". It is asked at the tea party scene, but never answered.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The riddle is "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" One answer I have heard is "they both have bills and tails/tales," but I was told that Lewis Carroll had meant for it to be an unanswerable riddle.

"'Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!' This, however, is merely an afterthought; the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all." (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1173/why-is-a-raven-like-a-writing-desk)

Actually, I think you mean, "Why is a raven like a writing desk." This is not a riddle from the movie, I think somebody wrote a book about this story once, Lewis somebody...

There's actually an entire book trying to answer this question:
