You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

'The word College was traditionally refered to part of a University. Each college in a university would offer a different type of a degree or offer a degree for a different discipline. A University would be made up of these smaller colleges.'

Presently, a college mainly refers to a school that does not offer degrees beyond 4 year bachelor's degree.

The first and foremost difference is that college is an individual institution whereas universities are collection of colleges.

The major differences between a College and a University is that a University usually has graduate degrees (master's and doctoral) and research programs. Universities typically have larger student bodies that do Colleges and are generally more well-known. They may also have more undergraduate courses led by teaching assistants.

College usually gives a diploma. University gives a degree. College degrees are connected with university.
Collage courses don't go in depth like university

I'm not sure there is a well-defined difference, but some of the following often apply...

- A college is smaller in size than a university

- A college could be part of a bigger institution, including a university

- Colleges can apply to different levels of education, so not all colleges are operating at the level of universities (i.e. undergrad, postgrad or research)

- Colleges may teaching be in a specific field only, e.g. there are such things as Colleges of Nursing.

However, just to show that the terms are not so stricly used... Imperial College London and University College London are both substantial world-class universities in their own right. Technically they are part of the University of London, but they are distinct universities in the same way thay Berkeley and UCLA are.
