What is the definition of Tapas?
I have personally never heard this term before and am curious as to what it means. It is a form of appetizers? If so, how closely are they related? If not, what is the difference between the two? Are Tapas commonly served in most areas or are they a more for a specific region? Where did this term originate? Is it even still commonly used to this day? Are Tapas considered to be a more expensive version of appetizers, or something similar? Lastly, what was the first item to be considered a ‘Tapa’? Any answers would be much appreciated!

Tapas - an Appetizer - means cover (was used in bars to cover the drink glass to wade away flies) and was the invention of Andalusia a Spanish community . It was prepared with a piece of bread in the beginning now modernized with various toppings such as ham or cheese.
It's a good accompaniment with zunito mini beer or fino sherry drink.
Other starters competing with Tapas are montaditos, pinchos, banderillas, raciones etc are the specialties of Spanish Food.
