50 years ago, February 3,1959, was named "The Day The Music Died" by singer-songwriter Don McLean. It was on that day that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were killed when their four-seat airplane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa as they were headed to the next stop in their tour. The pilot, Roger Peterson, was also killed. Richardson was 28. Holly was 22, Peterson was 21 and Valens was only 17.
