What is the coolest name you have ever heard for a child?

When my son was born, it really wasn't the thing to "think out of the box" for names. His name is Jeffrey and that was about as modern as names got. We had to think about what nickname people might call him and if there was anyway he could have gotten made fun of with the name. Today, it is cool to "think out of the box." I have heard some really cool names. One that comes to mind is Lyric.

What is the coolest name you have ever heard for a child?
Tip for best answer: M$1.36
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I am an official Name Geek! I've heard of all kinds of unique names, but I don't particularly like names that are simply differently-spelled versions of some other name. A kid saddled with Madysun, Feebee, Ahleighshuh or Jaykub is going to have to spell it everywhere she goes, besides having to say "Yes, my parents *are* literate, thanks very much!"

Some of the ones I've liked:

Lark/Larkin -- probably my favorite
Willow Grace -- a friend named her daughter this, and fortunately the name fit very well
Elora
Ocean
Afternoon
Haven
Frost
Story
Beckett

A sampling of cool, real names from my daughter's pre-pro ballet school:

Tuesday
Alyona
Magali (French for Marjory)
Timoor (male)
Kateri
Sasha
Spencer (male)
Arabella
Tatiana
Winter
Arissa
Felicity
Noni
Demitra

There are so many more interesting names there, as well as the usual Hannahs, Emilys etc.

My own kids' names are highly unusual as well, but I only reveal them on closed forums or to friends. They're unusual enough I can pretty much guarantee they're the only kids in the country with them. Their nicknames, though, are Alec, Bella and Gemma. I named them using the Beyond Jennifer and Jason/Beyond Madison and Montana/Beyond Ava and Aiden books. The authors' website below is terrific at knowing what the trends are, what the trends were, and how to pick a name that truly is everything you want, whether you want to be way out there, just ahead of a certain trend, or comfortably behind it.

Wow. Writers trying to think that one up would likely be shot down with "No, too weird!" But new parents don't really have editors...if they can ignore the baby's grandparents. :-)

While watching the great BBC show 'Foyle's War'... I got a kick out of the character Samantha Stewart. Her real name is Honeysuckle Weeks!

And Hatred's award for idiot parenting goes to:

(Note: I just remembered- I have a friend named Will Powers)
the parents of Urhines Kendall Icy Eight Special K. Naming a baby after a drug? Now I've gone on some benders in my youth, but this is just flat out dumb. It's no surprise I use this to support fining negligent parents or child-parents!

(note: I have a friend who's named "Will Powers")

There's also Pepsi Marijuana Jackson, who has nearly gotten jailed just for telling the traffic cop who pulled her over her name! She's working on her doctorate. Her parents were hippies (oh, really!?!)
