He started his cricket career from his coach Ramakant Achrekar at the age of 15. While at school, he was involved in a great partnership of 664 runs in a Harris Shield game with his childhood friend and team mate Vinod Kambli. In 1988-1989 period, he scored 100 not-out in his first first-class match for Bombay against Gujarat. He is all-rounder in ODI and TEST matches. Sachin played his first International match against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989.
