What is the collective noun for a group of platypus
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Platypus are fundamentally solitary in their habits. Hence, there isn't a collective noun for a group of platypus.

I'm sorry... This answer is incomplete and, frankly, doesn't answer the question. I'm surprised that the questioner accepted this (in a short time) as the correct answer.
Here is the answer from Merriam-Webster:
plural platy·pus·es also platy·pi \-ˌpī, -ˌpē\

Neither does your link to m-w. They wern't really looking for the pluralization of the word, but more specifically what a group of them is called as a single whole. (I.E. http://www.pubquizhelp.com/animals/groups.html.)
I can't back this up, but a random website lists it as a "Quibble."
