What is the cheapest way (under $100) to connect a digital audio out source (either optical or coaxial) to a set of analog speakers?

Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You could use a device such as this that has TOSlink and coax connections and performs the digital to analog audio conversion:

This looks like that same unit, and this company seems to have some of the more cost-efficient D/A converters out there though I'd check out some reviews if you are looking for audiophile conversion (though that's usually significantly more expensive):

If the speakers are self powered, something like this will do nicely: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Audio-Analog-Converter/dp/B0013LWK3A
(You may need a RCA Stereo cable to 1/8 inch headphone plug type connection if they are computer speakers but that can be found at radio shack for under 12 dollars).

If they are regular speakers, you could get the above unit and plug it into an existing stereo receiver or buy an inexpensive one at radio shack or other electronics outlet.

Get a friend who is knowledgeable about electronics to do it.
