What is the better choice when hosting a website for the 1st timer, addon domain or parked domain?

I'm also being asked to choose an addon directory and sub domain, what does that mean, and why is it important?
Tip for best answer: M$0.37
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

A question to answer a question, but it may help... who are you seeking to buy the domain and/or hosting from? Gator? GoDaddy? eNom? That would help a lot figuring out what it is. Are you building the site from scratch?

Adding a directory would mean like adding a folder in your ftp server that branches off from the main. "http://www.example.com/example2"

Subdomain would look like this. "http://exampleAlpha.example.com"

I have done some dabbling in the wide world of web design, designing a Drupal site with GoDaddy as my host. A parked domain, as I understand it, is when an individual (call it you) owns the domain but hasn't done anything with it yet. As such, there is a parked page visible that usually displays your own ads or someone else's. Or, something like "The website is in development and will be up soon."

I am sorry but I have no idea what an addon domain is.

If addon domain is contrasted with parked then I say that means they host it on their nameservers to refer to you sites storage location. To qualify parked means you own it but it ain't going know where or doing anything.
