What is the best world cup goal ever?
If someone else has snagged the one you thought was best already, you can go ahead and pick another great world cup goal to share with us. :)
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The second best, and I had to pick an England goal didn't I, is Joe Cole in the 2006 World Cup v Sweden. To be able to control the ball and then place it in the top right corner was amazing - it was top class and any team would have been proud to have that in their collection

M$-It was scored by Gheorghe Hagi, from 40 meters or so.Gheorghe Hagi was one of the best football players from that World Cup. And in my opinion is the best Romanian football player my country had.
-It was a game to remember for my country. And I am sure Colombia remembers this goal too.
Take a look at this:

Again, during WC94, against Switzerland. Again, Hagi.

M$...being Romanian...that is...need more coffee :p
Thanks for the flash back bro this is super kool. Great goal by one of the best world cup players. I remembered this one Hagi was magnificent in that world cup.
I think that is a worthy contender, whatever country you come from. :)
People can give their own opinions on this question for sure though.
Just to let everyone know...during Brazil-North Coreea (played on June 16, 2010)...there was a top for best 10 goals from a World Cup, aired in South Africa. The first goal you see in my post was in that top. Also this one was in the top 10:
Romania - Argentina. Final Score 3-2. Player: Ilie Dumitrescu. WC 94
Unfortunately I'm not in South Africa and I don't know who was on first place...

All the more impressive given that Dario Rodriguez was a defender :) The way that it was teed up by his team-mate was in my opinion just as spectacular. I am sure that any two of the world's greatest players could try to recreate this goal a thousand times and they would not be successful.
A goal by Diego Forlan in another game involving Uruguay at the same World Cup is also worth a look. Looking back it's a shame that they didn't make it beyond the first round.

M$This is a good link below, haha, Maradona is still number 1 but I think that as time goes on the first Uruguay goal (already as high as #4) has every chance of surpassing it. :D Goals scored by the team who end up winning the tournament always end up being more memorable and shown on TV more often.
"The ball does not touch the ground between Alvaro Recoba’s corner for Uruguay and Dario Rodriguez’s shot hitting the net. Rene Henriksen’s headed clearance for Denmark is controlled on the volley by Pablo Garcia, who steadies himself with some keepy-uppy before chipping the ball sideways. Rodriguez smashes a first-time effort home."

Kinda hoping the Uruguayans can go a little bit further in the tournament this year. :)
Nice one. I've seen Robin Van Persie do that too. :)

Maradonna's goal definitely had to be mentioned! Thanks for giving us the video. :)
The Joe Cole one is very good too, quite similar to the Hagi one above.
