What is the best white wine to serve with chicken?

I am having a dinner party next weekend, and I am serving a roast chicken, with some roasted potatoes and vegetables. What kind of white wine should I serve that is not too expensive?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00

When I used to drink wine I liked a few different ones depending on my mood.

Korbel Brut very cold goes good with left over cold fried chicken too. I love this stuff.
Beringer rose zinfandel
SantGria
Asti was so much like a ginger ale. It has to be real cold though for it to not over power the chicken, but it adds a dissection to the flavors.
I also liked these
These are not very expensive and are lively and compliment food not over power it.

I never subscribed to the white wine for chicken and red wine for beef theory.

Roasted chicken, especially the dark meat portions, can stand up to a medium to full bodied white wine. I would opt for a Viognier from the Rhone in France or from Washington state, a Chardonnay from Burgundy (a Pouilly Fuisse or a Macon white), or a Ribolla Gialla from the Collio region in northern Italy. All of these whites have nice weight to them and offer clean, mineral aromatics. You can fin some really good deals on these types of wines at the online wine store http://www.plonkwinemerchants.com.

It really depends on the spices you're using on the chicken. And it somewhat depends on whether the chicken is truly free-range or not, because free-range chickens have a stronger chicken taste, and sometimes overtones of prevalent herbs from the area.

Let's say you're doing a chicken with lemon, thyme and artichokes (something my family loves). I'd look for a wine known to have citrus overtones. This might be a Chablis, or it might be a Savignon Blanc. That's a French flavor combination, so look for a French-style wine, if not outright French.

On the other hand, you might be using more of an Italian spice combination for your roast chicken. The look for something Italian or Italian-style. Maybe Pinot Grigio? Again, look at your flavorings, and see if any of those flavorings appear on the wine's description.

This is really more of a how-to than a straight-out recommendation. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have an excellent selection with plenty of less-expensive choices. My fall-back wine is usually something Savingon Blanc from Trader Joe's.
