What is the best ways for a college student to make money from home while attending school?

I just started school at the Pittsburgh Art Institute Online and in my area here in Ohio there is a minimal amount of part time work right now. I had two jobs in mind, though they were fillied within a day due to the huge number of unemployed college graduates here. I'm an entry level graphic designer and that what I'm studying. I have been showing my portfolio all over for freelance jobs but I don't think I'm quite at that level. So where would you go to pay off your debts until school is over?

P.S I've even looked in fast food here, is pretty sad that they are not hiring much either, most of my old co workers are in those jobs now.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If you really want to be a freelance graphic designer, you could post your works online, maybe create a blog or your own site. This is your way of advertising your skills to others. Through that blog, you could accept requests from other people who could pay you in return.

You could also try searching other sites which posts freelance jobs. From there, you could see clients asking for (professional) help. I saw this site that you could try. http://www.ifreelance.com/ There are many other sites out there that could help you find freelance jobs.

Mahalo, if you can REALLY get into it (I have been here for maybe 2 weeks and I'm 1/5 of the way to my first check)

Blood Donations- Some places will actually pay you to donate and it takes maybe 30 minutes

Sperm Donations- Same as above (I am hoping with the name James you are male)

Craig’s List- Has a bunch of job listings on there that you can find jobs for.

Ebay- This is a dangerous way to make money (but an item for the cheapest you can then resell it for a little higher)

Writing- Write articles just kind of standard articles on something like the best places to buy proda shoes (just something that people would read) then try and sell it to like Cosmo or something.

www.freelancewriting.com (More free lance work)

Get a Cup and (if you are any good at drawing charactures) go to a tourist spot and do some charactures for $15/Black and white, or $20 for color.

There are surveys you can take and they will give you like 50cents - 5 dollars each (Though you usually get the 50 cent each one).

Go around your neighbor hood and ask if anyone needs a handyman, them come on mahalo and have us tell you how to do the work =P

There are things like this website here, Mahalo. Also check out Brighthub and Demand Studios where you can write articles for small to medium amounts of money, as well as textbrokers. Other things I would look into, is any kind of personal service you may be able to offer. Mowing lawns, writing resumes, Ta positions?

There are some sites that are becoming available for people that are in your type of situation. Because you are studying graphic design, it would be great if that's what you worked on in your spare time to earn extra income as well. Take a look at the following sites that pair employers looking for technical assistance (even graphic design) with people looking to provide services:

Elance.com
sologig.com

It may even be helpful to look up these types of offers on CraigsList or even advertise yourself on the CraigsList site. Although you are learning your craft, there could still be many opportunities to earn money. It is just knowing where to go to find these opportunities.

I think the collection of ideas from other posters are great, especially Karate Kid.

One other thing to check out is Examiner.com as you can write articles for your local online portion of this website. It is legit and if you can write/find interesting information/draw/take pictures then you can definitely make a buck. And the better you do on it the more you can make. PT is not a problem.

One final other thing is docstoc.com where you can upload documents (art you have created for example) and people who download it you get commissioned from the website..

Good luck, please follow up with a post when you have landed something, hopefully from this pool of great advise here.

thanks

While I agree tutoring is an option it is difficult to find that as an option without decent experience.

Editing pictures/public art require a large portfolio and the williness to not make money for awhile (if at all). I think it would be better to use art skills to try and create graphics/window art for businesses in the area because you can control the fee that way.

Having a free domain/free webhosting is something that won't bring in any money, so I am not sure how this would fit into the question. You could set all of that up and use the site to promote a business that you start, but that will take a good amount of time and energy (most college students have classes to focus on instead).
