what is the best way to spend a Friday night in the Los Angeles area?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You may want to consider going to our brand new Nokia Plaza. Right across the street from Staples Center, it's a very festive place with lots of restaurants (and a brand new movie theater across the street). Perhaps catch a basketball or hockey game! There is lots going on there at night, and it is always fun to just walk around.

How about Beverly Hills? "Wait, isn't that really expensive?" It's actually not! Beverly Drive has a wonderful selection of restaurants, which range from pizza to a fancy steakhouse.
There is a very informal pizzeria called "Mulberry Street" that is absolutely delicious! Right next door, for desert, is the trendy (and yummy) frozen yogurt place Pinkberry.

On the other end of the price spectrum is a place I recently went to for my birthday, Mako. It is a bit pricey (consider their small servings), but take a look over their menu and see if it is the type of food you would like (it's Japanese-American fusion).

Other Beverly Hills restaurants I've heard VERY good things about from friends (but haven't tried out myself yet) are: Koi, Zanku Chicken, Katsuya, and Asia de Cuba.
Another desert place you might actually prefer on Beverly Drive is called Urth Cafe. It is a cozy place with delicious deserts that even I loved (I'm not one for sweets). This is a very nice place to talk (there's a heated outdoor patio as well as a lovely indoor section which even has a fire place), and if you're with your significant other you will probably find it very romantic.

A short drive away is Sunset Blvd! West Hollywood has all sorts of concerts going on. The Roxy and the House of Blues are two staples of the music scene. See if anyone performing interests you.
Here's a list of concerts in:

A Comedy Club
Universal Citywalk
I hope this helps! If you have any questions, just ask :)
