Well, since the question is specific to both California and a beautiful day, something outdoors seems appropriate to enjoy both fully. Maybe hiking or picnicking at some great California landmark, like Yosemite or in Monterey. Or a cruise through some of the great wine areas - Napa, Paso Robles, the Sierra Foothills - to go tasting and enjoy the scenery. Order takeout at a deli and go to the beach.
