These are the steps to follow to remove mold and mildew from carpet of a car:
1. First, thoroughly clean the car interior using a wet or dry vacuum. Vacuum over mold and mildew of the car carpet and at the same time apply pressure to pre-clean the affected area.
2. Thoroughly clean the carpet using a wet vacuum or steam cleaner. This will make the carpet damp, so, let it dry out in the sun. If you cannot remove this, the carpet, use a dry towel to soak up the remaining water.
3. Get a carpet shampoo and pour it directly on the mold and mildew spots and scrub it vigorously until it will form a rich lather. Using a dry towel, spot-dry the area that has mold or mildew stain. The process should be repeated until there is no stain that can be seen.
4. Lightly spray Windex or any ammonia-based cleaner on the carpet, scrubbing it vigorously. Avoid using concentrated ammonia. If you have a concentrated one be sure to dilute it, half liter of water per liter of ammonia.
5. Thoroughly vacuum the carpet again using the wet/dry vacuum and let the carpet air-dry for several hours. After this make a mixture of three parts of vinegar to one part water and lightly spray this on the carpet. This will prevent the mold and midew to grow in the future.
