What is the best way to market to Baby Boomers?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Check out the books Dot Boom and Prime Time Women. They're great resources for marketing to boomers.

It's really a new field, as most marketers (besides drug companies) traditionally ignored this audience. But the boomer age group now has unprecedented spending power, increased longevity and quality of life.

So far, I've seen companies, like investment firms, advertise specifically to Baby Boomers by drawing on the nostalgia of the 1960s. Most Boomers were in their teens and early 20s in those years, so the "free love" and "forever young" slogans are very familiar to them. The commercials I saw also emphasized continuing to follow your own direction, since that era also highlighted independence and freedom. So, using an ad campaign that draws on those concepts might appeal to that audience. As an example, see this Fidelity commercial that uses the song "Time of the Season" by The Zombies. Lava lamps are the background, so there's a strong 1960s sentiment.
