Some free credit report offers aren’t really free . . . they require you to sign up for some sort of credit monitoring or identity theft protection program. These programs often come along with a substantial monthly fee.

The reports are not automatically sent to you, so it would be best to request these reports by going to AnnualCreditReport.com which the only authorized source for consumers to access their annual credit report online for free.
