One very popular method of slug control is the beer trap. Take a shallow container, bury it so that the rim is just above ground level, then add some cheap beer. Slugs are attracted by the odor and crawl (slide? ooze?) into the beer, where they eventually drown. Heavy rain can reduce the effectiveness of beer traps, and another slug-control method involves placing hollowed-out grapefruit halves around the yard, open side down. Slugs take shelter under the grapefruit, find a convenient food source, and stay there until captured.

The best way to get rid of slugs is to use slug bait in your lawn & garden. Baits usually come in two forms: iron phosphate & metaldehyde. I would choose iron phosphate over metaldehyde because it is safe for plants, vegetables and will not harm children or beneficial animals.

The bait is easy to use. Simply spread the slug bait throughout your garden and upon ingestion, the bait kills slugs within 3 to 6 days. Avoid placing it when the weather has been very hot or very cold. Dry temperatures and heavy rains also make the bait less effective so make sure to refresh the bait every seven days. Make sure to spread the bait around sprinkler heads or in other places where you see a lot of traffic.
