What is the best way to connect my iPad to the "free" wifi at Starbucks?
Whenever I choose the AT&T network on the iPad, I just get the AT&T wi-fi loging screen, which asks for a account name and password. My AT&T account log in info doesn't work.
My local Starbucks employees are no help at all. According to them you must purchase a STARBUCKS card, put money on it, etc, etc, etc., while the AT&T web site says access is FREE for iPhone customers.
Any help would be appreciated.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

But in your question, you mentioned that you can use your iPhone to connect, but cannot connect with your iPad to login with your AT&T WiFi account. Here are some tips that I used when I had issues connecting at the Starbucks:
1) When you attach to the attwifi SSID hotspot (all Starbucks use the same name), try opening up a Safari page on your iPad. This will try to connect to the wifi network, giving you the AT&T login page. Try using your username and password to login.
2) If that doesn't work, try going to the AT&T WiFi page on a computer other than your iPad (from anywhere you have internet access outside of a Starbucks) and login with the same username and password. If it let's you login, try changing your password, then go back a Starbucks with your iPad and try logging in again.
3) Try resetting your Network settings on the iPad, which will delete any stored WiFi passwords and other information. To do this from your iPad, open Settings, then navigate to “General” in the left-hand pane. Scroll down and tap Reset, then select “Reset Network Settings.”
Since the WiFi network is managed and offered by AT&T, it is they, not Starbucks, that would be able to offer tech support. Nothing against any Starbucks employee, but most are more skilled in making lattes then they are at solving internet connection issues.
The good news in all of this is on July 1, 2010, all WiFi access will be provided for free at all US Starbucks locations and they have promised that it will be one-click access, which I'm assuming to mean no more logins needed. My suggestion is to try this again on July 1st to see if this resolves the issue.

M$You'll have to buy a $5 Starbucks card, and then you can use the "free" access with your iPad for a limit of 2 hours a day. After that, the charge you. However, if you go somewhere else, like Barnes and Noble, McDonalds, or some local coffee shops, you can get the free access.
