What is the best way for me to learn how to sell my photographs locally in coffee shops?

I just know nothing about how to even approach the process.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have sold photos in local coffee shops, and other locations from time to time. You might be surprised that getting in the door can be easier than you think.

What I would do is contact taht specific coffee shops to see what their process is. Chances are good that you are going to have to offer them a percentage of the sale (standard for display of that type would be about 25%-30%). There are a lot of local coffee shops that are inteersted in doing this as it adds character to the establishment.

Try to stay away from even worrying about calling the local Starbucks for this. Usually, decisions like this have to be made either by the district manager, or by corporate. Your photos could start to to age well before ever getting a contact back.

There are other places that I also suggest that you contact as well. Used bookstores, are another great place to start. Many bookstore owners are really interested in giving back to the community, or expanding into other areas.

If you have themse to your pictures, try to go after local businesses that would cater to those themes. Some of my scenic pictures have sold at local travel agents. Nature pictures have doen very, very, very well for me at New Age supply shops. There is one in the area that is calling me on a weekly basis asking for more since they had sold out. Privately owned sports shops love pictures of kids playing sports. Nautical stores will fly through nautical pictures like water (pardon the pun).

You might find that you have pictures all over your town in no time if you try to think outside of the box as to where to sell them

I should have mentioned - this is the kind of email that I send to businesses that I am interested in displaying pictures at:

Hello,

I am a local photographer that visits (Name of Business) on a regular basis. I have always been very happy with the service that you store provides. I was wondering if you would be willing to entertain a potential for increasing some of your business.

As I stated, I am a local photographer. I was wondering if I could display some of my prints in your store for sale. I would be willing to offer you (dollar amount or %) off of each print that I sell in your store.

I would not be asking to take up all of your wall space. We could try just a few prints to start off with to see how they do. If they do well, we could discuss options for more pictures in the future.

Thank you,
