What is the best smart phone/pda on the market right now?

Tip for best answer: M$10.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Phone selection is very subjective. I personally think the Apple iPhone and T Mobile G1 are the only phones worth considering right now. There are new BlackBerry devices coming out, but they don't seem worthwhile for individuals using them outside of the corporate environment.

As Jason points out in an earlier answer, now is not the best time to buy. The current iPhone is potentially halfway through its life cycle. The G1 is the first generation of a series of Android devices.

Waiting 6 months may bring another iPhone. There will be more Android phones to choose from. The Nokia N97 will also be out and is comparable to both phones. It will have the latest version of Symbian, a proven and well supported OS.

That's really what this boils down to: who has the best application support and how will it fit in with your workflow. All of these phones are great choices with large communities of developers behind them. Weigh the actual physical features of phone and pick the one best for you.

I purchased the Google Android phone a month ago and am totally in love with it! The applications are outstanding and make it the best phone that I have owned. I call it my PDA for dummies!
