What is the best robot to mow your lawn? How does the robot know, what not to mow or the boundaries of the lawn?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I can speak about the roomba's however, and I feel that this is something similar. I believe what the roomba does is it bumps into things and lets the natural environment of your home to tell it where it can and can't vacuum. I also know that there are some vacuum robots that rely on sensors (you place the sensors to 'rope' off areas which you don't want vacuumed and the robot will notice those sensors and only vacuum areas that aren't 'roped' off.
It appears that the lawn mower robots are very similar:

"Most robot mowers will mow your lawn in a random manner. Some have bumper sensors to avoid obstacles others have sonars. When their battery begins to exhaust, the robot mower moves back to the charging station and other robot mower models will need to be manually connected to their charger."
"The Spyder LB1200 doesn’t require a perimeter wire. The mower relies on natural obstacles found on the property and a specially patented sensor to manage the mowing action. "
So some robots know from sensors and others just know from bumping into the natural environment of your backyard.

What if you could program the lawnbott? LB1200 can cut up to 5,500 square feet of lawn. It has wheels to prevent getting stuck. However, it does not automatically recharge. The grass must not be to tall. The robot is easy to lift and move around.

Do you trust the robot won't mow down your flowers?
Are there robot lawnmovers that use GPS to define parameters or boundaries?
