What is the best rice cooker for a rice addict?

If you're like me, a meal is not a meal if it doesn't include rice. I've never been picky about rice. I would eat any kind of rice, as long as it's not wild rice, which isn't really real rice (oryza sativa) anyway. I have a rice cooker I got as a gift last year. I'm not generally picky with brand names either, but this rice cooker is of a totally unknown brand. Since I eat rice a lot, I figure it's a good investment for me to get a rice cooker of a reputable brand. What is a good basic rice cooker for someone who eats at least three cups of rice a day?

I'm also curious about those expensive robot-looking rice cookers with many buttons. Can you also recommend a good example or two of that?

I prefer something I can find at Target or Walmart, but if there's something better or cheaper online, I'll go for that.
Tip for best answer: M$0.75

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I've been looking into rice cooker's myself recently. There's quite the range in gadgetry, from simple "on/off" cookers to "fuzzy logic" cookers to cookers with induction heating. It sounds like you know a bit about that, but here's a more thorough description of rice cooker types from Gourmet Sleuth.

Even if all you want from your rice cooker is rice, then a mid-range one still seems like the best option to me.; By 'mid-range' I mean one that has a "keep warm" feature in addition to "on/off" technology.; Something in the $50 range.; As for brands, Panasonic has been around a long time. I like this one from Aroma. I like that the product manual is available online, and there is additional info about recipes and rice cookers on their site as well.

As for top of the line, high tech functionality goes, Japanese company Zojirushi has a model for about $200. I think it's only available through Amazon in the US though.

All three companies (Aroma, Panasonic and Zojirushi) have been around awhile and seem to be popular brands for rice cookers. I think it's mostly a matter of deciding what you want your rice cooker to do for you, and choosing from there.

And thanks for asking this question. Answering it has helped me make up my own mind!

I suggest the Panasonic 3.3 cup Rice Cooker. It features a non stick interior and a keep warm feature like any Panasonic rice cooker. It also has a glass lid for easy sight of the rice when cooking it. You can choose from other models of Panasonic rice cookers with different features and different cooking capacity.
