What is the best recipe for a Mai Tai?

Tip for best answer: M$0.20
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

1 ounce Fine Jamaican Rum (Appleton Estate 12 Year)
1 ounce Martinique Rum (St. James)
1/2 ounce Orange Curacao
1/2 or 1/4 ounce Orgeat Syrup depending on who you ask!!!
1/4 ounce Rock Candy Syrup
Juice from one fresh lime (about 3/4 ounce) Save half of the cut lime after you have squeezed it and put it on top of the drink with the outside skin facing up so it resembles an island
Shake with crushed ice in a boston shaker till your hands can't take the cold anymore and pour into a Double Rocks Glass
Take a couple of fresh mint leaves, slap them to wake em up and put on the
inside rim of the glass next to the straw so you get the Mint fragrance mixed with
the almond and orange liqueur as you drink
the Mai Tai. Close your eyes as you drink this tropical concoction and your instantly in the tropics. This is the closest that you can most likely get to the Original
1944 Trader Vics Mai Tai, if it is made any differently then it is not an Authentic
Mai Tai so move on to another drink.

For Hawaiian Style you can add a Demerara Rum (El Dorado 5 Year)
and add an ounce of fresh squeezed Orange Juice, then follow the steps from above and
you have the Hawaiian Version of the Trader Vics Mai Tai.

Make sure you try the authentic Mai Tai first then you can judge all the others and you will find out that most likely all the Mai Tai's you every ordered were completely made wrong.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
