In West LA, I like John O'Groats, at 10516 W Pico Blvd. A little pricey, but I have never had a bad experience. I am also hearing good things about Petite Sara, at 6007 W Pico Blvd.
If you are willing to go a little more mid-city, there are a bunch of great places on 3rd between La Brea and La Cienega...Quality, Toast and Joan's on Third for starters. Taste on Melrose is also an excellent mid-city choice.
