For the most part, there is a friendly rivalry between Salerno's Pizza in Chicago, IL and Pepe's Pizza in New Haven, CT re who has the best pizza. Personally, I prefer Pepe's Pizza. Frank Pepe is credited with bringing pizza to the US and serving the first pizza here. He used to work for a bakery and would sell his tomato pies on the street. Eventually he bought a full fledged restaurant. Pepe's serves a thin crust, Napoletana style pizza. It's always very good, but like all things, some of the cooks are better than others. On some nights, the pizza is not just the best, but it's out of this world. They bake the pizzas in a fired brick oven to this day. See a link to their website below for hours, menu and directions.
If you are recently in this country from Italy, then don't expect any of the pizza here to be like what you can get in Italy. The flavor of European meats and vegetables is so different than that of the USA. But if you can taste USA pizza for USA pizza and not compare it to other countries, you will find Pepe's to be worth the adventure.
