What is the best laptop for under 800 dollars

Tip for best answer: M$0.50
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Personally, I like HP products with Intel processors due to long and positive experience. My current laptop is the HP Pavilion Entertainment PC with a 14" diagonal screen which has the same pixel count as the 15.4" screens normally do so I can see as many things, just a bit smaller, and weighs a lot less. However, the battery life is not tops (which doesn't matter to me too much as I use it mostly connected to a wall socket).

As far as reviews go, I'd suggest looking at the two following laptops:

- Dell Inspiron i1470-3282CRD (or whichever more recent version is out on the market when you go shopping). According to CNet.com (see http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-inspiron-i1470-3282crd/4505-3121_7-33776073.html ) this may be best if you need longer battery life and don't mind somewhat slower performance (i.e. no graphics-intensive video games):

- quote -
The good: Thin and trim for a 14-inch laptop; attractive design; roomy and comfortable keyboard; surprisingly impressive audio output; touch pad supports gestures, such as two-finger scrolling.

The bad: Application performance lags far behind similarly priced laptops; only 802.11b/g Wi-Fi.

The bottom line: With an ultralow-voltage CPU, the Dell Inspiron 1470-3282 runs longer but slower than competing laptops. We're not thrilled with the performance hit, but we still found lots to like about this well-designed, 14-inch laptop."

The second option is the Asus G60VX-RBBX05 or whichever more recent version you find, depending on when you shop for a laptop. According to CNet.com (see http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-g60vx-rbbx05/4505-3121_7-33776097.html?tag=mncol;lst ) this may be best for gaming if you can stay by a wall socket:

- quote -
The good: Affordable; excellent gaming performance; backlit keyboard and separate number pad.

The bad: Bulky body; poor battery life; screen isn't 1080p.

The bottom line: Packed with a great graphics card and good audio, but lacking Intel's latest Core i7 chip, the Asus G60VX-RBBX05 is a very solid all-around gaming solution for less than $1,000.

I suggest you buy Toshiba Satellite T135-S1310RD at amazon.com for just $699.59, one of the best in the market. According to a review by 'M. Kelley' of Boston, MA United States, he posted that "Perfect balance between netbook and full laptop,"

I was torn between getting a netbook or upgrade my several year old laptop. I do a lot of traveling so I liked the idea of the smaller netbooks that were lightweight and easy to carry around. I didn't like that fact that they were underpowered and had low screen resolution so I was hesitant about buying one....."

Toshiba's are excellent PCs. I personally have one, and it's the only thing that's survived my bad luck with electronics. ;)

Last year I went laptop shopping for my last year of college and only had $600 to spend. This is the one I ended up buying:

http://www.toshibadirect.com/images/products/300/mini-nb305-n310-mininotebook.jpg

It is smaller, which is actually quite nice because I take it with me a lot, and it's not bulky at all. Easy to take in my back pack or side bag.

These are it's features:

Intel® Atom™ Processor N450
Genuine Windows® XP Home (SP3)
1GB DDR2 memory
160GB hard drive
Intel® Integrated Graphics
802.11n wireless
Integrated webcam
Memory Card Reader
Fusion&trade Finish in Black Onyx
--end quote--

It only has a 1G memory, but what I did was buy one of those add on thingies (sorry, I'm not good in computer-speak) that upped it to 2G RAM. My computer is fast, effecient, lightweight, and pretty much awesome. All for $349. Plus the added RAM which was about $30 or something. I hope this helps!
