Hotels are required to be accessible to the disabled. On trips with physically disabled relatives, I have found that anything in the Hilton family (1) is good; most locations have sprawling, flat lobbies, etc. and convenient elevators. Hilton is also good price wise, with hotels ranging from their famous originals to more affordable hotels like Embassy Suites or Doubletree.
Finding locations for children with mental or emotional disabilities is unfortunately not something I know about firsthand and it's difficult to research. However, I have found through my searching that parent/academic conferences in Austin on the subject of special needs children are largely held at Embassy Suites or the Renaissance Austin Hotel (2), which is part of the Marriott family. Like I said, I really like the Hilton chain. And Marriott is equally good. Plus both usually have adjoining room options and swimming pools.
A way I have found good hotels for my disabled family is by deciding on a hotel that appeals to me and then phoning for information about special needs accommodations. For this, I find that I almost always need to speak to a manager, because front desk clerks are not fully versed in the subject.
