M$If you absolutely require a native AIM client (for free) I recommend Palringo Instant messenger lite. Unfortunately it is ad supported but trust me, I don't think you'll mind. Palringo has many advanced features that I've been enjoying on my iPhone 3G for some time now:
Chat using MSN, AIM, Yahoo, GTalk, ICQ, Jabber, iChat/MobileMe, Gadu-Gadu, and now even Facebook Chat.
Send voice messages (works like a walkie-talkie)
Picture sending.
Location sharing.
