IF you really "race walk" you can burn the same amount of calories in an hour as you would jogging, you just wouldn't travel as far - and you would greatly reduce the chance of injury to your knees. Jogging is hard on the joints. However, a lot of people I know walk for exercise and they go so slowly that they see no result for their efforts and they feel frustrated.
So I would say race walking is better than jogging as far as exercise goes, but jogging is better than strolling and slow walking is better than nothing
