What is the best form of art to try for someone that generally is not good in art?

I am interested in trying something artistic, such as drawing, painting, pottery, etc but have never been overly talented in any of those areas. I just feel I want to try and develop another skill. Any suggestions on what might be enjoyable to try and relatively easy to learn?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Wow that is a difficult question. I dunno about best form of art or whaterver but I get what your asking. I think it's probably more important that you be inspired and keep a open mind rather than just settle for some "traditional" form that is considered artistic. I'm totally one of those people who can not draw, do sculpture, paint, do pottery etc. I do mange to find many ways to express myself and learn new things along the way.
I'll ask a few questions of you to try to get my point across.
Is this art:

I dunno but I had loads of fun making it!

Some area locals like to gather here:

and make things like this:

With much help from my computer I "made" these:

Looks like art when it's printed onto 13x19 paper and framed.

Sometimes this feels like art to me:

Anywho that's enough about my goofy stuff, I hope the source links really inspire you.

@shannonpatrick17 great answer! I agree, art is about expression, and there are tons of ways to be expressive... "traditional" or non.

Personally, I like to do origami - traditionally a very structured art; however, I like to modify and mix things up. When I do this, I don't actually consider the origami folding the art, but how I modify / present the origami. Take a look:

You might want to try collage. It's good for expressing yourself visually without requiring lots of learning of technique. It can be surprisingly good for capturing a mood or an idea.

Wikipedia's got some interesting articles with links that are worth a look.

I can't draw, but my artwork has been on the cover of a game, inside a tutorial book on art, a DVD featuring artists, and I've won competitions. So, not bad for a complete and utter hobbyist with no talent :)

I use 3D software and I create images on the computer.
I started out with Bryce and Corel and then Photoshop and Terragen and Poser and Mojoworld and so many other little nifty programs. I finally found my old Renderosity gallery the other day hehehehe oh gosh! I thought it was completely gone, I tried to search for it once and they said no artist of that name found, it had been years since I'd been doing art much, or logged in!!!

Years ago I lost the focus, I lost interest, I nearly lost myself :( and its only recently I've done some new work. I'm helping a friend cover his novels :)

So, here's my old artwork and if you can't' draw for nuts!!!! then join the club!!!!

Focus on the type of art you love the most. It doesn't matter if you are not yet good on it. There are no professional that started as a professional immediately. Everyone has been a newbie first and later on become an expert. I'm an artist at pop art and I've also experienced your place now.

A real easy and quick exercise can be making your own Christmas ornaments. You can purchase pre-formed objects, use sturdy cardboard or fire your own ceramics. Whatever you choose to do, in the end you will probably want to paint or color them. You can also take up drawing. Remember that your images need not be perfect, just express yourself with whatever drawing medium excites you (oil, charcoal, pencil, pastels) and go from there. Remember first and foremost that your art must first please you. Do not attempt to please someone else. A few years ago I was at an art show. Selling for 700.00 was a 6 x 6 white canvas with a quarter inch hole in the middle. Somebody actually purchased it. Try different art mediums until you find what you enjoy. Below is a short list to consider.

01. Painting
02. Ceramics
03. Tying flies for fishing
04. Drawing
05. Crafts
06. Carving
07. Taxidermy (not one of my choices)
08. Greeting cards
09. Photography

Hello!
Your statement is darn near incomprehensible. One can only "not be good in art" if one doesn't ever try ANYTHING. Mathematics is artistic. Science is overwhelmingly inspiration have you ever seen the Staphylococcus roseus (so beautiful). Even the words you use to express your apathy toward (insert here) is creative and artistic.
The joy of art is it doesn't have to be artistic or prolific. It could be something functional. I LOVE to tye-dye t-shirts.
But when all else fails I have a rendezvous with my saxophone.
I would strongly encourage you - before you take a class or try to "learn art" to simply pick up a couple material and see what you can do on your own. You might surprise yourself!

Would you be interested in woodcarving or maybe stained glass. There are local shops that may have classes that are reasonably priced. As with anything we do there is going to be a degree of skill, find something that is going to hold your interest until you start to develop your technique and are happy with the results.

You may try clay sculpture. It's inexpensive, if something doesn't work out you can ball it up and start over (no wasted material) and you can do it without an initial expenditure that's prohibitive.

Once you find yourself getting better, enjoying it more, then you can branch out into other sculpture, invest more into it etc.
