What is the best file cataloging software?
What is the best program for cataloging these files so I can find them easily without having to search through each disc individually?
I've been using Extensis Portfolio for this purpose for years and like its ease of use and search options, but I've become increasingly frustrated with how slow it has become as my archive has grown and how many files it simply "misses" now during the cataloging process. I don't need anything fancy, but I would like something that has good search capabilities and can catalog all file types reliably. (Portfolio is designed primarily for image cataloging, which may be at the root cause of my current problem... since my archive contains a WIDE variety of files types. But I got it free through work, so that's why I've been using it until now.) Obviously, I'd prefer freeware, but would not be opposed to paying a reasonable price for a program that is well designed and reliable.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

DiskLibrary ($39) - This is my favorite disk cataloging app on the Mac right now. It's very nice if you have lots of photos, videos and the like and want thumbnails stored as part of your catalog (altho this can make for a rather later catalog).

DiskCatalogMaker ($29.99) - It is very good, but I think I like DiskLibrary better right now.

There is the old reliable DiskTraker ($30) that I used before DiskLibrary.
