What is the best eBook platform on the market?
I've heard about the Kindle, the Sony eReader and even the iPhone as platforms, but wondering what people think and / or if there are other options I should look at?

The ebook reader market has exploded in 2010 with dozens of new ebook-enabled touchscreen devices hitting the market. Your question specifically addresses ebook platforms which seems to be shifting. The physical reader market is getting highly competitive so Amazon in particular has begun to focus on the ereader application. There is now a Kindle app for PC, iPad (and shortly iPhone), Blackberry and the latest for the Android.
Major platforms to date:
Amazaon for the Kindle DX natively with applications for other platforms
Apple iBookstore for the iPad/iPhone
Barnes & Noble for the Barnes & Noble Nook
Borders Kobo Store supporting the Spring Design Alex Reader
Google Books
Sony is partnering with Google Books to add to their library.
I think the platforms with free ebooks will play an important role which is why the iBookstore now includes free ebooks from the Gutenberg Project. I also think cross-platform reader applications like the Kindle will play an increasing role. While Apple restricts the Kindle (and other ebook readers) from natively accessing the payment system (requiring use of the browser to pay), other hardware platforms probably will not. So hopefully there will be a free for all with each library developing its areas of strength so the consumer can choose.
