What is the best/easiest/cheapest software to use with a MIDI controller like the KORG padKontrol?
I can get it to connect, and it seems to work, in that I can tell that the midi signal is being received but there is no sound coming out of my computer from the device. I have it mapped correctly, but I am beginning to think my laptop simply won't handle the output from it or something. Is my problem software or hardware? I can't seem to get any of the presets to map to the correct pads either, even the ones made specifically for the software I've tried. What is my problem?

I'd recommend a Dave Smith Evolver. It has all the controls you need and its not a fake (virtual) analog synthesizer. It has real VCO's, VCA's and VCF's instead of digital emulations, and it works out perfectly with the KORG padKontrol.
If you want to try the real analog sound first, or just compare it to a Virtual (fake) Analog, try the Korg Poly 800, they are very cheap but with real analog filters.
There are others to consider. I recommend that you check these out as well. They may work well with KORG padKorntol too.
