What is the best dvd ripping program?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

What do you consider to be best? The speed will largely depend on your computer and not the specific application. Ease of use? lots of features?

http://handbrake.fr/ is what I use because it is easy and doesn't slow down my computer.

looks like I found the same site as easyeboy. it just shows that it must be good. http://lifehacker.com/380702/five-best-dvd-ripping-tools also has some great info on the most popular dvd ripping applications.

For ripping to a file I still like to use FairUse. (Not sure it can be found anywhere legal any more ..it was a commercial product, but the company was sued into oblivion by the movie-industry lawyers.) Only does DivX or XVid, no H264, but it's got many options and the cropping and editing are quite good.

Handbrake is probably better overall these days (especially now it can transcode.) But I still think in file-sizes rather than bitrates, so I often go back to FairUse. (Must learn Handbrake better. Handbrake is free too)

So, objectively, for ripping to files: Handbrake. Though I put FairUse a close second.

Now, for Ripping a DVD-9 and creating ISO's, vob-files, or burning single or dual-layer DVD-R's directly (with NERO), without a doubt DVD Shrink is king. Brilliantly easy to use, it can auto-recompress the whole DVD (giving the main movie the best quality), or write just the movie. It's free, and gives a great result. Love it.

If you want to rip BluRay stuff, I believe SlySoft's AnyDVD HD (commercial) is the best out there. (They're not American, so the get to dodge the legal issues somewhat.) ;)

And, finally, if you've ripped DVD's to files, and you want to make them back into a DVD, use the free DVD Flick. Easy to use and works beautifully (and quickly.) You can even make flashy menus with it if you want.

Oh, and finally finally :) ..if you want to transcode between formats and want every option under the sun, the free MediaCoder might be worth a look. It's a complex beastie, but if you know what some of the video and audio formats are, their containers, and what some of the options mean, you can recompress, scale, edit, and convert a lot of things with this. (I recompressed a lot of my DivX .avi files with this so they would fit on my wee GP2x handheld gaming system, and they ended up tiny.) :)

www.slysoft.com (AnyDVD HD .. Blu-Ray ripping.)
handbrake.fr (Handbrake, DVD ripper and video-file transcoder.)
www.dvdshrink.org (DVD Shrink .. DVD-9 to DVD-5 or 9 copying.)
www.dvdflick.net (Convert video files to proper movie DVD discs.)
FairUse can be found out there somewhere, I guess. :)
mediacoder.sourceforge.net (Media coder, ultra-powerful transcoding.)

definitly DVD ripper and DVD shrink if space is a concern.

If your just want to make a copy of the disc, or just digitize the disc make it into an .iso using ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/ its free,

ImgBurn, rip the dvd as an iso. you can always mount the image using powerIso (also free) and rip it at a later point, or just burn the iso onto a fresh disc, or just mount the iso and play it as if you just inserted the DVD into your disc drive.

I preferr using ImgBurn as it doesnt eat up CPU cycles, your just read the disc and make an image of it. No muss no fuss.

There are many ways to rip a DVD, but all I could say is that using DVDDecrypter is the best way. With DVDDecrypter you can rip your DVD then file or folder it with FolderISO > Burn it with DVDDecrypter... Fast and easy!

If you going to pay for the software get CUCUsoft Ultimate DVD Converter. I'm running it right now on a 1.8 dual core laptop with 2 g ram. I wouldn't recommend using CUCUsoft DVD converter on any system that has less power, you'll find you wont be able to run the pc for anything else while 'recording'. The DVD Converter can be bought seperatly for about $30. The Ultimate suite is $60 but can also change any movie format to another. Stick with .wmv (windows standart). I tried using .mp4 and had lost of troubles witht the soundtrack not coming out correctly lined up. This software also has the kewl feature of skipping the intros for you and going right to the movie (you can turn this feature off). Plz ask me ?'s if you still have them.

I own the software. CUCUsoft.com sells it

Personally I love DVD Shrink for being able to take a dual-layer DVD and shrink it to fit on a single layer DVD, without losing any substantial quality.

this time ,I recommand you two good softwares.
the first one is the AnyDVD HD, AnyDVD HD comes with same functionality as AnyDVD, but with additional features for full Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD support, including decryption of Blu-ray (BD+ and AACS) and HD DVD (AACS) movies. Allows you to watch movies over a digital display connection, without HDCP-compliant graphics card and without HDCP-compilant display. No need to buy an expensive monitor. Sweet!
Playback your discs on your PC with PowerDVD Ultra, which otherwise do not run (titles released by Studio Canal, The Weinstein Company, Kinowelt, Optimum Releasing).
You can get it from the following link:
http://www.freedvdripper.org/blu-ray-converter/any-dvd-hd.html
the second is the Blu-ray Ripper Platinum, Blu-ray Ripper Platinum is design for backup your favorite Blu-ray DVD movie to your computer by converting Blu-ray DVD to AVI, DivX, XviD, VCD, WMV, MPEG4 format video files.
The link is:

for more software about blu-ray,you can click the following search link:

For Macs: a free tool called MacTheRipper, from http://mactheripper.org/

For Windows based computers the best ripping software for any media (DVD, HD DVD, CD etc...) is made by the company called SlySoft. You can get them at http://slysoft.com/ . They were the first ones to break BluRay DVD encryption algorithm as well.

And the shareware I use for a long time is aimersoft dvd ripper, it works really perfect, such as editing function, fast conversion speed, etc, it's surely worth a try.
