What is the best deodorant + antiperspirant on the market?

What do you think is the best deodorant + antiperspirant available at most markets? I'm looking for what will keep you dry and not stinky as long as possible. Ideally something that does not ruin/discolor fabrics (yellow stain) and bonus (brownie) points if your suggestion has a good scent too! Please include any (relevant) personal experience to support your answer.
Tip for best answer: M$5.00

I would recommend Degree Clinical Protection. My husband uses it, and it has worked very well for him. It actually prevents him from sweating at all. Plus, it smells great, unlike many 'prescription strength' products.

Product Features

* Prescription strength protection without a prescription
* Protection lasts throughout the day, even after a shower
* Lacks the discomfort and irritation often caused by prescription products
* Refreshing clean scent
* Dermatologist tested

As an added bonus, you can get a $2 off coupon on the degree website!

If you want an all natural deodorant that works better than Degree without the harmful ingredients try the new In Love Deodorant by inlovewithbodycare.com. It works better than any deodorant I've ever used, it applies well, and has great ingredients. Amazing!

Everyone's body chemistry is different. Therefore, what works well for one person doesn't necessarily work at all for the next person.

About 10 years ago, I remember seeing a Consumer Reports article that said that Sure worked best for most people. However, almost everything has been reformulated since then. In addition, your body chemistry can change and the germs that the deodorant kills can change, so that what works for awhile could quit working.

Then, there are all the concerns about using aluminum on the thin skin of the armpits.

That said, I've found that switching between Sure, Lady Speedstick (my DH switches to the men's version) and the endurance versions of the Mennen brands. Their scents seem to change every few months, but they always have things like Shower Fresh, Baby Powder, and Spice in all brands.

I have also tried the "natural" route of crystals that work by killing the bacteria, and natural deodorants. They do work on odor but not on sweat. Fortunately I rarely sweat, but if you do, you won't want to go this route.

Certain Dri; its basically like the Drysol described above, but no prescription needed as its sold over the counter. You also apply this at night, and you literally WILL NOT SWEAT. I have used it before and its pretty incredible.

Agreed! I had a major sweating problem in high school, and started using this stuff after, of all things, seeing it on TV. (I was desperate.) With this, I didn't sweat under my arm pits AT ALL.

It doesn't stain your clothing because you apply it at night (but not after showering! don't want those pores WIDE open)-- so it could potentially stain your pajamas. It works by making you not sweat which makes you not smelly, mostly, but if you want a pleasant smell you'd need to use another thing just for that.

You ideally put it on every evening, but the effects last up to 72 hours -- that means you are dry and not stinky a LONG time! :)

What is most important here is the active ingredient in the deodorant, and the strength of that ingredient. Most "deodorants" help you in two ways: by smelling nice and preventing sweat. The actual "deodorant" is just scented, but inactive, ingredients. It is the ANTI-PERSPIRANT that is the active ingredient--usually Aluminum Zirconium Trichlorohydrx GLY. Look for the highest percentage of this that you can find for a more powerful sweat preventer, regardless of brand or fragrance.(Just look at the BACK of the package, where it says "active ingredient"). I recommend Secret Platinum Soft Solid--any scent you like!

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k221/ugochii/SecretPlatinumTropicalSatin.jpg

The Soft Solid formula contains nifty Olay conditioners and also blends in really well -- if you apply it deftly enough it won't leave your armpits looking a stark and obvious white. Most importantly, this deodorant does a great job at keeping me fresh and dry . So even if the scent doesn’t suit your fancy, any of the other scents in the line will keep you just as dry.

Secret also makes a new prescription strength product. I have not tried it yet, as it is somewhat expensive, but it might be worth looking into. You can also go to a dermatologist, and they will give you a prescription you can put on (every few nights, at night only, it kind of burns a little bit if you shave, but it really does help).

You can also try Adidas 24hr deo control pure powder." its supposedly supposed too make you sweat less because it has no aluminum.

http://www.ssb9.net/users/48235/adidas1.jpg

Dove also works wonders! Plus it keeps you soft which is a bonus

Well Klima works like a charm it worked on me not for the five days that they tout on their website see link below but at the very least for three days. Since I come from the warmer climes on the equator to be precise it is simply magical and it has a nice scent too.
Whats more you ca order for it via the internet it was made in the netherlands and this is what the makers say."Klima is a European based producer of powerful antiperspirants for underarms, hands, and feet, and is designed to prevent sweating for those who suffer from severe wetness and odor. Once available by prescription in the Netherlands, Klima is now available to the US market through the internet. 99% of customers believe Klima to be the best antiperspirant they have ever used and would either purchase again, or recommend Klima to a friend".
So much for the marketing hype it has been good to me so far.

Try a more natural product

such as Toms of Maine-less chemicals and 'side effects'

http://www.tomsofmaine.com/products/deodorant.aspx

it is available in most supermarkets

you can also look in places like Whole Foods or trader Joes--they have other organic/natural deodorants-although I have not tried them (I am actually allergic to any solid deodorant)--my friend swears by them

FYI--i have tried teh $20 OTC 'prescription' deodorants-and hated it--didn't work any better

I have used Tom's and (Trader) Joe's deodorants in the past and they work okay. They keep you smelling alright, but don't handle the sweating. I did like these since they don't damage fabrics, but they just weren't good enough for me!

Hey!

I use something called drysol. It is a prescription. Although I don't have a sweating problem, I still swear by it. It is cheap, it is applied at night (no worries about scent during day), it is MUCH more effective than over the counter products, and you don't have to apply it day by day.

Talk to your doctor, this stuff rocks! If not, I really like old spice high endurance.

This guy sure likes Right Guard:

I believe The Body Shop makes a great deodorant. Its old one and new Maca Root are excellent deodorants. They smell clean and fresh, and its products are not tested on animals. You can combine it with an antiperspirant, usually a scentless one.

If you want a natural deodorant that absorbs moisture and kills odor-causing bacteria I suggest you try lemon + baking soda. It's cheap and green!

If you want a serious antiperspirant, you need to try Klima Antiperspirant. It is sold by Klima Deodorant at drug stores and online. It stops wetness and odor for 5 days straight - even through showering. It seems hard to believe until you use it. Then, you can't believe that you will use anything else again.

They have an aluminum-free version as well, called Klima Hyper-Dri, but I have not tried it. They also sell Bonedri Deodorant which I have used as well. Bonedri and Klima seem to work about equally, but Klima is unscented and lasts a lot longer.

I know the Bonedri does not stain clothes, and neither does the Hyper-Dri. I am not sure about the Klima Antiperspirant.

I highly recommend this company, as they have been extremely helpful on teh phone, even providing me with about 30 minutes of consultaiotn about my issues! For free!

Suze, You are so right! Klima Deodorant is the best deodorant in the world.

Anyone that is suffering with severe underarm sweating needs to try Klima deodorant. I had this problem ever since I was a teenager. I have tried prescription drysol, secret clinical protection and other numerous antiperspirants and deodorants and nothing works like Klima deodorant. If I didn't use Klima my next step would have been surgery to remove the sweat glands, yes its that bad.

Have you ever walked outside and just started sweating? By the time I arrive to my workplace my armpits were soaked. I always wore dark colors to hide the sweating. Now I can wear pastel colors and whites without being embarrassed. Thanks Klima for giving me a product that works and provides me with the lifestyle change of wearing different colors of clothing.

I agree! Klima Deodorant's antiperspirant, and their Bonedri deodorant are awesome. Anyone who sweats too much in their underarms needs to try Klima Deodorant’s antiperspirant. It will dry you up like the desert! For real, it works great and lasts between 3-5 days. I swear by this stuff. Give it a try!

I use Klima every 5 days, and Bonedri every day.

Well, I'm assuming that you need an antiperspirant. Non-antiperspirant deodorants have the advantage of not discoloring your clothing. The chemicals used in antiperspirant, on the other hand, do. Your not likely to find any antiperspirant that actually does the job but won't stain your clothing. If such a chemical were available, they would all be making use of it.

Next, what type. Solids have been shown to work least well, aerosols best, roll-ons nearly as good.

Arid Extra Dry is supposed to be the best (as far as antiperspirant capabilities go - I think consumer reports is my source, from a while ago). Personally, I cant stand the chemical makeup of aerosol deodorants. They literally give me an extremely painful sore throat that lasts up to an hour.

The best roll-on for men is Mitchum. Slightly expensive but has an excellent odor and does the job of an antiperspirant well.

If money is an issue, the best roll-on for men is Arm & Hammer. The scent suffers (sort of baby-powderish), but it works just as well as the better stuff.

Jim

I have tried many different types of antiperspirants and deodorants over the years. I have found that after I wear one for awhile, it seems to stop working for me. It's like I become immune to it.

Recently because of readings about the dangers of wearing products with aluminum, I wear the Toms when I am just sitting around the house. I use something stronger when I go out or will be sweating.

I got a bottle of Dry Idea Clinical Complete Roll-On Antiperspirant & Deodorant from a salvage store. It works okay, but it's not the best.

Actually, the best I have used lately has been Sure Max Clinical Anit-Antiperspirant & Deodorant. I will say that I read many reviews of this product before trying it. Seems like it either works really well for people, or not. I think everyone's chemistry is different, therefore, some deodorants will work better for some than others.

I've really been wanting to try Dermalogica Environmental Control Deodorant, but haven't due to the cost. I hear it's very good and natural. My brother and best friend's husband both use the Clinical Strength Degree. They say it works the best and smells the best.

I only use deodorants since antiperspirants have aluminum in them and this was connected to Alzheimer's awhile back. I don't know if it still is.

About brands, I like the smell of Old Spice http://pics.drugstore.com/prodimg/26371/200.jpg

original the best.

For nontoxic, a deodorant impregnated with silver will some day be sold. Bacteria can't live in an environment that has silver. Maybe that's why rich people have always like to eat off silver and a big gift at a baby shower is a silver feeding spoon. I couldn't fin a modern reference. Maybe somebody else can point out where one can buy such an item.
