what is the best C++ book for a beginner to start to learn with?
#c++ #c #linux

Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The best user's reference (as opposed to Stroustrup, which is a language
reference) for C++ is "C++ Primer" by Stanley Lippman.

Lippman wrote the cfront preprocessor at Bell Labs, and his explanations of how things work and how to use them are very accessible. A good exposition of the theory and practice of object-oriented design as well.

Another good one is "C++ How to Program" by Dietel & Dietel. Lots of examples, clear prose, great book.

My young son, who is learning C++ on his own, prefers "C++ for Dummies." He has other books, but felt that this one was better for people who were trying to learn but were not in a Comp Sci class. I have included a link to the book below.

Book Sales #5,542: C++ Primer Plus. Stephen Prata "If you are new to C++ programming, C++ Primer Plus, Fifth Edition is a friendly and easy-to-use self-study guide. You will cover the latest and most useful language enhancements, the Standard Template Library and ways to streamline object-oriented programming with C++. This guide also illustrates how to handle input and output, make programs perform repetitive tasks, manipulate data, hide information, use functions and build flexible, easily modifiable programs." Looks great!
