I have to agree that the Netherland Dwarf is the best house rabbit. We had a delightful little guy who was housebroken and used his litter box, did simple tricks and was just full of personality. Mini lops are my second choice. They are a bit more happy to be cuddled, or at least the ones I had were. A mini lop/angora cross I had was very, very laid back, but needed a ton of grooming.

Myself. Bred and showed bunnies during my teens and won quite a few blue ribbons.

I'm going to disagree with everyone. As the director of a rabbit rescue, veterinary technician and Licensed Educator, I can honestly say that each rabbit is different. For children, the bigger the rabbit, the better. Smaller rabbits, such as the Netherland Dwarf, are more anxious. Bigger rabbits, such as a New Zealand or Flemish Giant, are calmer. There are many rabbit breeds in between, not to mention the mixes. I recommend visiting a local rabbit rescue, either at their shelter, if they have one, or at one of their adoption events. You can meet the rabbits, learn about each rabbit's personality and if s/he has any medical concerns of which the rescue is aware. Rabbits take a lot of work and life 8-10 years if properly cared for, including spay/neuter surgery and at least yearly vet exams by a rabbit-savvy veterinarian. For more information, visit www.rabbit.org, or email me at deana@rascallyrabbitrescue.org.

Adoption is also preferrable. It not only saves the life of the rabbit you adopt, but the one who takes its place. Also, building up a relationship with a rescue can help you. You'll have somewhere to turn to for advice, which is priceless. Rescue volunteers love helping people learn about rabbits. Rabbits are the third most euthanized pet and there are over 1000 in shelters and rescue in Arizona alone! Please consider adoption.

This extremely cute bunny is easily one of the BEST (and recommended) pet in our house - comes in 24 colors(black, blue, opal are some of them)
Netherland Dwarf Rabbit -weighing only 2 to 2 1/2 lbs.

They are very compact, with short little ears that stand straight up. Their fur is short, dense, soft, and glossy.

I would recommend a mini-rex rabbit, they are little larger than a dwarf but certain breeds have a velvet like fur that is incredible.
When it comes to rabbits care and nature is pretty much the same from species to species. size is the only difference and the nature of the rabbit depends on the time you spend with it.
