What is the best blogging software for iPhone OS?

It needs to:
-Be able to handle all aspects of basic blog management - posting, comment moderation, maybe some basic skinning, etc.
-Be free. This includes the blogging service and hosting - I don't want to self-host.

I'm open to any blogging service, as I don't have my blog yet.

Right now I'm looking at the WordPress app, but I don't want to go through the trouble of creating a blog then realize another service has the better app.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think you're going to have some trouble finding an app that meets all your requirements, as most iPhone apps are focussed very closely on posting, and not on comment moderation. The WordPress app may be a good choice, as it does offer this feature.

Some blogging platforms have e-mail based moderation, where comments are mailed to you, and you reply with "OK" or "spam".

If your blog uses the DISQUS comment system, then they have an iPhone optimized version of their web approval app.

The WordPress app for the iPhone is the best blogging app I've seen/used. It allows you to moderate comments, post blog posts, including html tags, etc. You might be out of luck with respect to the skinning feature in the iPhone app. However, a hosted blog at WordPress.com is free and it does allow you to change the theme, but I don't believe you can create your own theme without paying a premium.

I'd have to agree with mithegooie about the wordpress one it's pretty cool.

But if you'd just like posting you should check out Posterous
http://posterous.com

What you do is email a message or picture or video whatever it maybe to their email address. Then on your account you'd of course set which email address you want to authorize then the fun part is setting where you want specific things to go.

For instance you can have videos go to your youtube/ vimeo accounts, and text sent to you blog and images posted to flickr. Or just it go to everything to everywhere if you like.

If you run a self hosted wordpress blog you can turn on the option for XML-RPC which will allow you to use the Wordpress iPhone app to blog directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

The option is available from Settings and Writing in Wordpress' admin console.

It all depends on what you like best. There are dozens of blogging apps for iPhone, Wordpress as you said, but there are others smaller ones like Tumblr.

Based on personal opinion and on friends' choices I would say to go with Wordpress, it can be very professional letting you write your own HTML or you can simply pick a template and type to your heart's content.

It all depends on personal opinion in the end, and my personal opinion is that you go with Wordpress.

Out of all the blogs I've setup, WordPress is the best...in my opinion. Therefore I like to use the WordPress iPhone app. The WordPress iPhone app allows me to checkout posts from other users, submit my own, and check comments.

First, all of the apps I am recommending cost money. But they are all good, and worth it IMHO.

One of the best iPhone app for blogging to multiple systems from a single app is ShoZu.
http://www.shozu.com/
ShoZu - Upload photos to Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Picasa, Photobucket, Blogger, Ovi, Wordpress, Windows Live Spaces, Photoshop

Think of it as the Swiss Army knife for blogging from the iPhone. It's list of supported sites is impressive to say the least. But, it's blog editing is not as powerful as some of the other tools as far as WISYWIG. Its strength is it support for lots of services, and photo/video support.

Blogging: Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, TypePad, MetaWeblog, Moblog, Vox, Windows Live Spaces, life.Dada.net, and Freewebs

It also has support for sites such as: Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Picasa, Smugmug, Snapfish, Twitpic, Webshots, Blip.tv, CNN Exchange, BBC News and Reuters.

No, I don't work for ShoZu.

Another blogging app on the iPhone I would look at is iBlogger. It cost more than Shozu, and I don't like it as well. But it does support some of the blogging engies that Shozu doesn't.

Blog with iBlogger!

iBlogger supports: Durpal, Blogger, Expression Engine, MovableTypem, SquareSpace, TypePad, Blojsom, LifeType, LivingDot and WordPress

The final one I would look at (and the cheapest of the bunch) is BlogPress. It's a great little tools, and the newest of the bunch. It doesn't support as many of the blogs (yet) as the other two apps, but its still feature rich. The one major upside to this app is it does have a WISYWIG editor. This does set it apart from the others, and could make this the clear winner for you.

BlogPress

BlogPress supports: Blogger, MSN Livespace, Movable Type, TypePad, LivingJournal, Drupal and Joomla.
____________________________________________

As for a blogging service I would look at http://blogger.com It's where I started blogging years ago, and I find it way easier to get started with it than trying to tackle WordPress. If you want to have more control (at a deeper code customizations level) then WorePress does have an advantage. But if your just starting out, I would look at starting with blogger.

If you want the ability to move your blog later to a different service, make sure you purchase a domain, and point it to what ever service or web hosting you might use in the future. This way you don't lose readers if you move from one service to another.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

By the way, if you do go with WordPress, then I also would recommend going with the WordPress iPhone App. It's good, and it is free.
