What is the best blogging software for iPhone OS?
-Be able to handle all aspects of basic blog management - posting, comment moderation, maybe some basic skinning, etc.
-Be free. This includes the blogging service and hosting - I don't want to self-host.
I'm open to any blogging service, as I don't have my blog yet.
Right now I'm looking at the WordPress app, but I don't want to go through the trouble of creating a blog then realize another service has the better app.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Some blogging platforms have e-mail based moderation, where comments are mailed to you, and you reply with "OK" or "spam".
If your blog uses the DISQUS comment system, then they have an iPhone optimized version of their web approval app.

M$But if you'd just like posting you should check out Posterous

What you do is email a message or picture or video whatever it maybe to their email address. Then on your account you'd of course set which email address you want to authorize then the fun part is setting where you want specific things to go.
For instance you can have videos go to your youtube/ vimeo accounts, and text sent to you blog and images posted to flickr. Or just it go to everything to everywhere if you like.

M$The option is available from Settings and Writing in Wordpress' admin console.

M$Based on personal opinion and on friends' choices I would say to go with Wordpress, it can be very professional letting you write your own HTML or you can simply pick a template and type to your heart's content.
It all depends on personal opinion in the end, and my personal opinion is that you go with Wordpress.

M$One of the best iPhone app for blogging to multiple systems from a single app is ShoZu.
http://www.shozu.com/
Think of it as the Swiss Army knife for blogging from the iPhone. It's list of supported sites is impressive to say the least. But, it's blog editing is not as powerful as some of the other tools as far as WISYWIG. Its strength is it support for lots of services, and photo/video support.
Blogging: Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, TypePad, MetaWeblog, Moblog, Vox, Windows Live Spaces, life.Dada.net, and Freewebs
It also has support for sites such as: Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Picasa, Smugmug, Snapfish, Twitpic, Webshots, Blip.tv, CNN Exchange, BBC News and Reuters.
No, I don't work for ShoZu.

Another blogging app on the iPhone I would look at is iBlogger. It cost more than Shozu, and I don't like it as well. But it does support some of the blogging engies that Shozu doesn't.

iBlogger supports: Durpal, Blogger, Expression Engine, MovableTypem, SquareSpace, TypePad, Blojsom, LifeType, LivingDot and WordPress

The final one I would look at (and the cheapest of the bunch) is BlogPress. It's a great little tools, and the newest of the bunch. It doesn't support as many of the blogs (yet) as the other two apps, but its still feature rich. The one major upside to this app is it does have a WISYWIG editor. This does set it apart from the others, and could make this the clear winner for you.

BlogPress supports: Blogger, MSN Livespace, Movable Type, TypePad, LivingJournal, Drupal and Joomla.

As for a blogging service I would look at http://blogger.com It's where I started blogging years ago, and I find it way easier to get started with it than trying to tackle WordPress. If you want to have more control (at a deeper code customizations level) then WorePress does have an advantage. But if your just starting out, I would look at starting with blogger.
If you want the ability to move your blog later to a different service, make sure you purchase a domain, and point it to what ever service or web hosting you might use in the future. This way you don't lose readers if you move from one service to another.

M$By the way, if you do go with WordPress, then I also would recommend going with the WordPress iPhone App. It's good, and it is free.
