If Jesus/God/The Holy Spirit "allowed" us to choose between right and wrong, who are we, as humans, to force someone into making a decision that doesn't directly interfere with the life of someone not involved? Is it going to kill anyone who didn't partake in the decision? No. So why play God? Most religious people use the "Don't play God" arguement when it comes to cloning. So why not this as well?

I can't believe conservatives bring up the polygamy argument. After all, in both New and Old Testaments, polygamy is not only accepted, it's the norm for your wealthy and powerful sorts. If you are going to argue that the bible says it isn't okay for gays to marry, then I guess you also have to argue that the bible says it IS okay for men to marry two or more women.
I, on the other hand, think that marriage is not a religious issue, but a government issue, involving rights, and in a democracy, those rights should be available to gay couples.
Regarding Polygamy: The government has the right to put limits on marriage so long as it applies to everyone across the board, ie, a person can only be legally married to one other person at a time. (And frankly, if polygamy is to be legal, it should be legal to not just men with multiple wives but also women with multiple husbands, but that's a separate argument.)
Regarding Animals: Marriage must be between individuals of equal legal standing, consenting to the marriage. Animals and minor children have no legal standing to extend consent.
Regarding Incestuous Couples: Hypothetically speaking, so long as they are both consenting adults. But to that, I say.. "ewww" the same way as I say "eww" to an 80 year old man marrying a 20 year old woman. Ewww..
I believe polygamy should be legal. And incestuous couples increase the odds of sick children. It is the same reason why people with AIDS should not have children.
Does this include polygamists? What about incestuous couples or animals?
1. Laws should apply equally to everyone. One consenting adult should be allowed to marry another consent adult of their own choosing.
2. Laws should be made to protect the civil liberties of its citizens, not withhold rights from a minority group based on gender, race or sexual orientation.
