What is the best alternative to VisualHub (discontinued)?

Last October,Tyler Loch, founder of Techspansion, decided to discontinue his great software VisualHub. I really liked VisualHub, it was just THE BEST tool for easy conversion of media files.  I'm still using my paid version and I'm also using other tools like Handbrake, elgato turbo, Filp4Mac and QuickTime, but none of them offers the versatility of VisualHub. I also miss its funny messages and dialog boxes. I know that VisualHub is partly based on the FFMPEG engine which is open-source. Is there any new OSX software tool comparable to VisualHub? What would you recommend as VisualHub's successor?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I used VisualHub *a lot*. I've since switched over to RoadMovie - which I love. It has subtitle support, Turbo.264 support, great metadata control, and has built-in presets similar to those of VisualHub.

Its user interface leaves a bit to be desired, but SUPER is an extremely versatile conversion tool. I turn to it when other programs don't recognize the format I want to convert from.

And then there is Avidemux, another solid tool for conversion, and my favorite for quickly turning a downloaded .flv into an easier-to-tinker-with format. Avidemux is available for Mac if you wanted something for that specifically, going by your screenshot. I wasn't sure, though; if you do only have access to a Mac, ignore SUPER, as it is Windows only.

Thanks a lot! I needed an OSX software but I now have run some quick tests with SUPER. It's really good. A simple interface for all encoding you'll ever need. I will keep it in mind for Windows.

If you love the program... I would back it up, instructions available at http://www.techspansion.com/howtobackup.html and continue using it.

Unfortunately, the open source engine that is used in Visual Hub, is the exact same and already present in other Mac tools such as Handbrake.

Tyler and his - make you laugh-out-loud funniest release notes in software history, is what made Visual Hub stand out, and with out him... I fear none will compare.

I think the best alternative to VisualHub is ffmpegX because:
  • It is a GUI on top of great open source tools: ffmpeg, mpeg2enc, mencoder, and more and more;
  • It supports a lot of A/V formats and decoder/encoders;
  • It provides different options for different formats, decoders, and encoders;
  • It also presets settings for popular applications such as DVD, PSP, iPhone....
Please check the following link: http://www.ffmpegx.com/index.html for more information
