What is the best alternative to the iPhone, other than a Blackberry, for email, Twitter, RSS, chat?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Simple: The Palm Pre!
If I weren't going to get an iPhone during summer, I'd probably get this brand new Palm Pre (set to release in the first half of 2009).

The new Palm® Pre™ phone is always thinking ahead to make your life easier. Pre pulls your different online calendars into one view, bringing you the information you want without having to search for it. Pre links your contacts from different sources, giving you one place to find what you need. And Pre delivers incoming messages1 and notifications in an intuitively subtle way, letting you react or respond however you want. People, events, information that matters. With Palm Pre, it’ll come to you. "

Honestly this seems like a really cool phone! If you get it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Android seems to be a nice competitor to the Iphone and Blackberry, though right now you can only get the G1 on T-Mobile.

If you have the means to get that phone it is a nice choice. Other than that if you have a phone already, you can do anything the Iphone can do outside of SMS and calls on the Ipod touch.

If you don't want to carry 2 devices Windows Mobile is an option, while not the best choice, they are coming out with Windows Mobile 6.5 and then Windows Mobile 7. Frankly if I were going for a windows mobile phone I would wait until 6.5 at least.

Windows mobile has the largest install base of those on nearly every carrier, It's just a bit outdated in comparison. If you have time you might also consider waiting for the Palm Pre with the new Web OS operating system, it looks like it has potential to be the best Iphone alternative.

Well, that depends on why you mean "alternative to iPhone". If you don't need the phone part so much, an iPod Touch is a marvelous little machine for accessing WiFi to do email, Twitter, RSS, and chat. It's just like an iPhone without the phone or camera or GPS parts or (most importantly) the high monthly plan fees.

You might also want to look into a Nokia 810; I have heard good things about it. (I have a 770 myself, and find it a little hard to use, but they may have improved it since then.)
